Having a Restaurant that doesn't break the bank

Restaurant Day is here again! Helsinki buzzes with an amazing energy when we’re all brought together to enjoy flavours from around the world.

Participating in the event is a wonderful experience but it can bring its own set of challenges. One recurring theme mentioned by many past participants is that they just don’t make enough money to cover the costs of the event; Leaving them to question whether or not to join again.

With a few simple steps, we’ll try to encourage more "one-day food-prenuers” to join in on the fun and cover the costs - or better yet, come out with a profit!

Restaurant Day Is Coming!

Restaurant Day Through a Marketer’s Eye

 Restaurant day is coming!

Like many other foodies, my wife and I thought it would be a fun experience to join the multitude of pop-up restaurants around Helsinki and share some of our favorite recipes.

The countdown begins now… We all have only one week left to prepare our offerings as well as our brands. So, what should we do to get the most out of our day out?

Being an Entrepreneur - Radio interview with Joonas Villanen

Being an Entrepreneur - Radio interview with Joonas Villanen

After doing a few interviews with entrepreneurs around Finland, I was asked about my own experiences. Tables were turned. The interview was organized by a local radio station called Radio Uusjussi.

So how did it go?

Well, to begin.... I can now understand how the interviewee feels in the hot seat! Nerves were on edge and my mind and tongue didn't always work together, but all in all... I think it was pretty successful! What do you think?

What did they ask?

First question: Why should people change from a traditional media to new, more digital, media like video production.

Shortly - because it's trendy. It's a better, more effective channel to portray your message. Video is more memorable, personal, and emotional. And, probably the biggest reason of all and with the advancements in technology, it is available.

So that I don't spoil the goods too much, I'll just add that brands and the importance of branding was talked about as well as what it takes to make your business stand out from the rest and how to get started.

Please, share you own experiences below. We would also love to hear what you have to say about the interview's topics. Was there anything worth taking away?

Happy watching!

Hottest Startup Scenes in the world

Where does Finland Stand?

Hottest Startup Scenes in the world

Where does Finland stand?

Well… unfortunately, according to this infographic of the Startup Ecosystem Report 2012 by Startup Genome - It doesn't.

I'm sure that no one is surprised that the number one spot goes to Silicon Valley. But there are some unexpected ecosystems that will probably take most by surprise. Startup Genome's report ranked the top 20 most active startup scenes in the world based on pre-determined criteria. These included funding, entrepreneurial mindset, trendsetting, support, talent, and more.

One thing I, personally, would like to see is the rise of Finland. I hear and see a lot of ads promoting all kinds of entrepreneur seminars and events, and that's all find and good, but the real question is: Can we get Finland on this chart? And how long will it take us?

Finland has definitely made an impact by showing that we have the technology to be an international hub, but do we have the right approach to earn a position on this chart? More over, are our attitudes open enough to embrace the changes?

What do you think?? Can Finland be a internationally recognized hub for hot startups and entrepreneurs?? Where do you think we should start? What steps should be taken? Leave your comments below!

My Fifteen Minutes -web series

What is it like to be studying abroad?

My Fifteen Minutes -web series

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to spend 4 years studying abroad without a thing familiar to you? Well, we had that question in mind as well. We wanted to create a little pilot for a series that would shed light into a student's life. How does a young Russian girl manage while  studying in Finland by herself? We learned a lot from Vasilisa as she talked about the challenges she has faced since arriving here in Finland.

Have had a similar experience? What advice would you give a struggling student in a foreign country?
